Nurturing Individuality & Progress

Frequently asked questions

I am looking for a school for my child.  Can I come for a tour?
Yes, we offer information sessions and a tour every half term for prospective parents.  The session is at 4 o’clock in the afternoon and you can meet the headteacher and have a look around the school.  We do not offer tours during the school day due to safeguarding our students.

If you would like to book onto the next open evening, please email the school office:

office@westfield.bucks.sch.uk

Can the headteacher/ assistant head call me to discuss my child and their needs / look at my paperwork?

If you would like to know more about us and if we would be the right setting for your child, please feel free to explore our website and view the Prospective Parents presentation.  You are also invited to come to our next Prospective Parents open evening.  Please email the school office to book a place.

We are only permitted to view a child’s paperwork once we are officially consulted through the Local Authority.

How do I apply for a place for my child at your school?
Please see the flowchart attached.  At time of publication, this information was accurate to the best of our knowledge from the local authority.

We do not live in Buckinghamshire – how do we apply for a place at Westfield?

Please see the flowchart for admissions.  If you are outside of Buckinghamshire, your Local Authority will consult with Buckinghamshire County Council directly.

Does my child have to have an EHCP to apply to Westfield?

Yes, all of the children at Westfield have an EHCP already in place.

Do you have spaces now?  If not, do you have a waitlist?
No, we are full and over capacity.  We are a Local Authority Maintained school, all of our spaces are allocated by Buckinghamshire County Council through the consultation process and placement panel.

How big are the classes?

What is the staff ratio to children?

Class sizes at present are between 8 and 12 children. There is a ratio between 2 children to 1 adult, and 3 children to 1 adult, depending on the class and provision needed for that group.

How are therapies delivered at Westfield (ie. Speech and Language Therapy or Occupational Therapy)?

At Westfield, we run an integrated therapies approach:

This means that in every lesson children will take part in a therapeutic learning activity related to their Speech and Language skills, Occupational therapy needs, etc.

Please use the link below to learn more about therapies and interventions at Westfield.

How does my child get transport?

If you would like your child to have transport to school, this is done through the Transport Team in the SEN department of Buckinghamshire County Council.  Please discuss this with your EHCCO.

What is the criteria for children to move from Apple, to Pear, to Cherry?

Our children are grouped by need, and not by year group.  We group the children by what provision we need to have in place in that classroom, and then differentiate the curriculum and learning.

Moreover, the numbers are not progressive.  Think of the numbers as a street address!  Pear 1, 2, 3, does not mean that Pear 3 is harder work or higher in the curriculum than Pear 2 and 1.  When you enter Pear base, Pear 1 is the first classroom you see, then Pear 2, then Pear 3, etc.

How do I buy a jumper?

You are able to buy new school jumpers through Arbor.

I am a Westfield parent, how do I apply for a place for my child for Secondary School?

There is an information session for our parents when their child is in Year 5.  Please come along and ask all your questions about Secondary transfer.
