Westfield celebrated the King’s Coronation in style with a Coronation Party and Games.
Children enjoyed making and decorating cupcakes, cutting up fruit and making cucumber sandwiches along with making crowns and party hats.
The rain stopped just in time and the sun was shining as the children enjoyed socialising outside as they talked about what they know about the new King.
After the food it was time for a Carousel of Games including:
Pin the Crown on the King
Balance the Crown
Kings Game
Red, White and Blue - Peg Board Picture Making
After the food and games, Mr Ricketts played the bagpipes which rounded off a fantastic morning that was enjoyed by all.
The children have enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities this week to learn more about King Charles III and are very excited to witness his coronation this weekend.
Children at Westfield performed sharing concerts to parents/carers this week, showing what they have been learning this term with our music provider Curly Kath.
The children were excited to put on a show and it was wonderful to see the progress that they have made during the Autumn term.
Jingle Bells and We wish you a Merry Christmas proved to be popular hits and Parents and carers joined in for the finale, 'Livin on a Prayer'.
A huge congratulations to all involved a big thank you to Curly Kath and Shima for all of your help this term.
On the last day of term, the children at Westfield had a lovely day celebrating the Queen's Jubilee with a Jubilee party.
We took the opportunity to learn more about British Values - an important part of the National Curriculum, along with making handprints for our jubilee bunting.
Our Jubilee themed Forest School sessions included - making crowns, telling stories on the 'throne', making mud castles, riding the royal carriage and making Jubilee puddings in the Mud Kitchen (and offering them to Bagley Bear).
The children all had a fantastic day celebrating.
Hope you all had a lovely week and enjoyed the celebrations.
The music sessions at Westfield school engage children in high quality ensemble sessions that challenge, develop and progress musical, social and personal skills for life.
Music sessions at Westfield school are broken down into 6 key areas, these include:
Every two weeks we change the musical differences and use a variety of instruments to enable the children to listen, respond and feel the differences.
These include:
• Allegro and Lento - Fast & Slow
• Pitch - High and Low
• Dynamics - Loud (forte) & Quiet (piano)
• Crescendo and Decrescendo - Increasing and decreasing sound
• Major & Minor - Happy and Sad music
• Rhythm vs Beat
The children are always excited, eager to learn and fully engage with music sessions. It’s wonderful to see the progress they have made and their determination to participate as a group and independently. The children are so very supportive of their peers and always show such empathy by cheering, using encouraging words or clapping during performances. Music sessions are always adapted to support individual needs and promote social and communicative interactions. As the children have become more familiar with music sessions and activities their achievements, participation and development of new musical skills and learning has been outstanding.
In recognition of the Autism Accreditation’s 30th year, the children at Westfield have been celebrating the occasion in many different ways.

Westfield celebrates the 25th anniversary of World Book Day
On Thursday 3rd March Westfield celebrated the 25th anniversary of World Book Day in style with children dressing up as characters from their favourite book.
Pupils engaged with a variety of reading activities throughout the day including talking about their favourite characters and also questioning the teachers to find out which books they used to love when they were children.
Other activities included making character puppets and character cakes and also a book scavenger hunt that proved to be really popular.
Music sessions were also all linked to World Book Day and the children loved making up stories through music.
On Tuesday 15th February we held Rainbow Day at school where we celebrated diversity and our individuality. Each class carried out various activities throughout the day and had so much fun making coloured handprints for a whole school rainbow display.
In Apple classes children explored colour through art activities and colour matching activities, including some beautiful rainbow collages.
Pear Classes also created some fantastic colour art and ‘all about me’ learning.
In Cherry Classes children discussed the word ‘diversity’ and how we all have similarities and differences. They then created words for a display that summarised what diversity meant to them, such as ‘hope’, ‘support’ and ‘kind’.
